The church of St Mary-le-Tower has long been part of a great tradition for choral singing in Ipswich. The choir has led worship in this civic church for many decades, delighting and inspiring with music in which young people play a significant part. For many of these, this experience will enrich their lives for many years to come; for some it will be the foundation for a career in professional music.
The Choral Foundation for St Mary-le-Tower (a separate and independent charity) was established in 2013 and has the goal of raising £400,000 over the next 10 years. The Foundation pays for the choral scholars to receive professional singing lessons and aims to increase the number of scholars who can benefit from this, as well as support the training of all the choristers. In addition, there are plans to convert part of Tower House, opposite the church, into a song school for the choir giving them and the wider singing community much-needed rehearsal rooms and teaching facilities.
But all this comes at a cost and the Foundation needs to raise the funds to continue this project.
